The Most Expensive Choices You’ll Ever Make

daily choices matter emotional health financial freedom freedom through health healing starts now health is wealth holistic wellness lifestyle medicine self responsibility toxic relationships Aug 14, 2025

And they have nothing to do with your bank account balance.

People think financial freedom comes from how much money you make. But real wealth—and real cost—shows up in the decisions you make every single day about your body and your relationships.

Yes, your job matters. Your salary matters. But I’ve met people who made six figures and couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs without pain. I’ve worked with people drowning in expensive medical bills because they ignored their body’s whispers for too long. I’ve also seen people drained not by their careers, but by toxic relationships that left them physically and emotionally wrecked.

Let’s be real:
The biggest financial decisions of your life are:

  1. How you treat your body

  2. Who you choose to marry or spend significant time with

  3. The company you keep

And if you’re not intentional with those three areas, you will pay—emotionally, physically, and yes, financially.

🚫 Bad Health is the Most Expensive Thing You Can Own

Poor health drains your bank account in ways that sneak up on you:

  • Monthly prescriptions

  • Specialist co-pays

  • Medical equipment

  • Surgeries and downtime

  • Missed work, lost productivity

  • Long-term care or dependency

But the deeper cost?
You lose choice.
You can’t take the trip, dance at your kid’s wedding, go for a hike, start the side hustle, or live independently in your later years—not because of lack of desire, but because your body can’t carry your life anymore.

That is true poverty.

💔 Relationships Can Heal You or Destroy You

We don’t talk enough about how much our nervous system responds to the people we’re around. Chronic stress from toxic relationships will keep you stuck in a sympathetic (fight-or-flight) state—wrecking your digestion, your hormones, your sleep, and your ability to heal.

Being around people who:

  • Undermine your growth

  • Make you feel small

  • Drain your energy
…is like paying rent for a room in your own body you can’t even live in comfortably.

Whether it’s a romantic partner, family member, or long-time friend, who you allow access to your energy is either helping you heal or keeping you sick.

💡 Your Health Is Your Retirement Plan

Stop waiting to invest in your health until “later.” Later costs more. Later requires more effort. Later might not be available.

When people say health is wealth, it’s not a cute saying—it’s a fact.

The person who walks daily, eats clean, protects their peace, and surrounds themselves with supportive people… will likely live longer, spend less on medications, bounce back faster from setbacks, and feel more fulfilled.

That person has choices. They have time. They have energy.
That person is free.

✨ So What Can You Do?

  1. Audit your daily habits.
Ask: If I keep doing this for the next 5 years, what will my body feel like?

  2. Audit your relationships.
Ask: Do I feel nourished, safe, and inspired around this person? Or depleted, tense, and resentful?

  3. Start now.
It’s not about overhauling your life overnight. It’s about choosing yourself today in one small way:
Drink the water. Go for the walk. Say no. Sleep more. Unfollow the drama. Book the acupuncture session. Eat the greens. Speak the truth.

The Bottom Line:

Nothing is more expensive than poor health and poor relationships.
They rob you of joy, drain your resources, and limit your freedom.

But the good news?
You get to choose again.
You’re not stuck. You’re just one choice away from a new trajectory.

Keep moving, eat something green, and question anything that sounds like a quick fix.
Chow! Chow!
